Abstract

The major challenges identified in the Telangana State are over-exploitation of groundwater in ~1687 villages, declining and deeper water levels, geogenic and anthropogenic contamination and sustainability. In view of this alarming situation, the Govt. of Telangana implemented renovation and restoration of existing ~46,000 water bodies, supply of piped potable drinking water to its population, aquifer rejuvenation, adopting micro irrigation along with regulatory measures and participatory groundwater management practices.
