Abstract

In the present work quantitative strain analysis of Nongbri and Laitsopliah conglomerates of the Mesoproterozoic Shillong basin of the Shillong plateau is carried out considering the stretched pebble as strain markers. Six different techniques for intrapebble, interpebble and bulk rock strain estimation are applied, results are compared systematically and all suggest broadly flattening type of deformation (0<k< 1) for Laitsopliah conglomerate pointing to S- tectonites and constrictional type (1<k <∞) of deformation for Nongbri conglomerate pointing to  L-tectonites.
